Landscaping & Design Projects
Royal Avenue Gardens
Recently (spring and summer 2011) we have been working in conjunction with the gardening team in ROYAL AVENUE GARDENS in Dartmouth. This historic garden is changing, more sustainable planting, less seasonal bedding and `planting projects` are what is needed in this day and age. A few years ago we helped design and provide plants for the area set aside as the `Australasian Garden` . This has proved successful and this year we were asked by SHDC to design a new planting scheme and provide the plants for, the MEMORIAL GARDEN within Avenue Gardens.
We designed a MEMORIAL ROSE GARDEN using appropriately named rose varieties. The SHDC gardening team removed the old hedge and unwanted plants and new railings and a new, wider pathway was constructed. Wheelbarrow loads of manure prepared the site and the roses were planted bare-rooted in February.
The wonderful deep red rose called `Thinking of you` was used as the standard roses and the old favourite `Peace` was planted around the perimeter as an informal boundary. We decided to use `hot` and dramatic colours and so used the red floribunda rose `Invincible` in the foreground. `Simply the Best` the wonderful orange coloured rose, the yellow rose `Freedom`, the unusual copper coloured rose `Remember Me` and the wonderfully scented pink `The Countryman` were the in-fill varieties.
